News Update: Blog Auto-Hiding

As most PLU Blogs veterans know, if a blog is listed in Top Blogs or Photo Blogs, they need to put in our button code in their templates to enable us to track their popularity. Many users don't bother with this despite our advice, hence their hits show up as 0 and they are relegated to the bottom of the lists. Over time, the site has become bloated with 'hollow signups', thus we have implemented a policy that if we are unable to track the statistics of a blog, the listing will auto-hide itself. This keeps our bandwidth within limits and rewards those who have a genuine interest in being part of the community.

Extending Our Thanks

Over here at PLU Blogs, we have just successfully completed our server transfer, so there's plenty more bandwidth and space to go around. We would like to thank all the various gay blogs for their consistent support all this while. While many top sites have come and gone, PLU Blogs has evolved from a simple ranking site to a bona-fide GLBT community. Here's to the next few years of linking to and serving up the hottest gay and lesbian blogs around!

Renovation: In Progress

We are currently giving the PLU Blogs front page a makeover, so some sections might look strange, as this is still work in progress and might take a day or two to complete. We hope the new look will give users a more integrated browsing experience. If you have any suggestions, feel free to email us via our contact form.

Senior Contributors Needed

PLU Blogs is currently looking to expand its front end community article system. We need dedicated writers and contributors who are not afraid to voice their thoughts and submit useful, insightful articles with a queer bent. If you are interested, please send us an email using our contact form about becoming a senior contributor. Ideally, you should be able to write an article, or post an excerpt from your blog (content subject to approval) once a week, perhaps focusing on a particular area of interest (e.g. movie coverage). A good command of English is necessary. You are allowed to submit royalty-free content from other sites provided you acknowledge the source.

Bloglist Cleanup

Over the next few days, we are initiating a cleanup in the Top Blogs and Photo Blogs sections. We noticed that there had been attempts to list commercial sites and also many current sites which are inactive. These inactive listings have not included our button linkback, hence we are unable to track their stats. Over time, the accumulation of sites lead to a rather unsightly bloglisting, so we've deactivated (not deleted) many of these sites. If you're a blog owner and your site has been deactivated, all you have to do is login and reactivate your site again. And pop our image button on your site to ensure it does not happen again.

New Host

Over the last 48 hours, PLU Blogs has been down and any attempts to visit the site would have resulted in a page with a suspended message. What happened was that we have been told by our old host that the site was straining the server and we had to look for a new host who could handle the large volumes of traffic. We found one and it has been a hectic two days transferring everything to the new server but we are proud to say that everything is back to normal.

Version 2.0

We have made yet more improvements to PLU Blogs, with a cleaner interface and sharing and publishing capabilities so that articles can be contributed. There are way too many top sites around and while we're grateful to our members for their continued support, we recognize the need to diversify into other areas so that our site can continue to grow and serve the GLBT community better.

Chatrooms Now Open

We now have our own chat rooms! In the tradition of IRC and MSN, PLU
Blogs now has a real time chat feature called qChat, which you can
use it as discussion forum with other members, so feel free to make use
of it. We have not imported your user details though, as that would be
another major operation, but registering your details for the chat
rooms take less than a minute so please bear with us.

Site Statistics

Every week on Monday, the hits and outgoing clicks that your site
receives will be reset. This is standard practice that we have been
doing since the previous version of PLU Blogs, the primary reasoning
being that if we let the hits accumulate till the end of the month, the
numbers will grow so huge they would cease to mean anything. Also, it
is a chance to let blogs which have just joined catch up.

However, the votes, ratings and comments that your site receives will never be reset, so that part of your efforts in promoting your site will always play a role in your site overall ranking!

Image Codes

Regarding image buttons not showing up, everything has been fixed.
However, if you still notice nothing appears, that would be the old
code still lurking around.
You should change it to the new code (get yours from your control panel).
